BlogThe Washington Post announced a new hire this week: Marisa Iati, who graduated this past summer from American University’s master’s program in journalism and public affairs. Iati was an outstanding student in a strong cohort who worked at IRW as an intern/graduate assistant and also was in the practicum at the Post.
Other Post hires from IRW internships and/or The Washington Post practicum at the School of Communication:
•Reis Thebault, a University of California, Berkeley graduate student hired as an intern at IRW; now a Post national and breaking news reporter.
•Derek Hawkins, a former master’s student in SOC’s journalism and public affairs program; now on the Post’s national and breaking news team.
•Fenit Nirappil earned his master’s in SOC’s journalism and public affairs graduate program; now covers city government and politics in the District.
•Moriah Balingit earned her master’s in SOC’s journalism and public affairs graduate program; covers education for the Post.
•Aaron Gregg, former IRW intern while a Georgetown master’s student; now covers the defense industry and government contractors for the business section at the Post.
Recent hires from graduates of AU master’s program:
•Lynh Bui earned her master’s in SOC’s journalism and public affairs graduate program, covers Prince George’s County/criminal justice for the Post.
•Luz Lazo earned her master’s in SOC’s journalism and public affairs graduate program, covers transportation at the Post.
Recent joint hires by IRW and the Post:
•Meryl Kornfield, a University of Florida graduate, an intern at IRW and also working at the Post.
•Lucas Smolcic Larson, a Brown University graduate, an intern at IRW and also worked recently at the Post before joining The Island Packet in Hilton Head, S.C.
Hired into summer internships at the Post after working with IRW:
•Morgan Krakow, a University of Oregon graduate, an IRW intern and now at UNESCO in Oregon at the conflict-sensitive reporting institute.
•Rachel Premack, a University of Michigan graduate, an IRW intern, now at Business Insider.
•Erin Logan earned her master’s in SOC’s journalism and public affairs program, and was an IRW intern; now at the Los Angeles Times.
