IRE Watchdog Workshop for journalists comes to DC

Journalists looking to hone their investigative skills can learn from the pros at IRE’s Washington, D.C., Watchdog Workshop this weekend.

The Investigative Reporters & Editors event includes panels and training sessions with veteran journalists from The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal and others.

Experts will explain how to mine social media and search engines for information, where to find documents and data, and how to present information across platforms.

Where: GWU – School of Media and Public Affairs, Jack Morton Auditorium, 805 21st St NW., Washington, D.C.

When: 9 a.m.-5:45 p.m. Saturday, April 21

Cost: $55 for professionals

$25 for students

Online sleuthing: Led by IRE’s Doug Haddix; 9:15-10 a.m.

Investigating the powerful: Led by Matt Apuzzo of The New York Times and Politico’s Carrie Budoff Brown; 2-3 p.m.

Storytelling across platforms: Led by Scripps Washington Bureau’s Mark Greenblatt and ESPN’s Tisha Thompson; 4:30-5:30 p.m.
